A UTI is a bacterial infection that affects the bladder (cystitis), kidneys (pyelonephritis), or urethra (urethritis). Most uncomplicated UTIs can be effectively treated with antibiotics, but this decision is made by a qualified healthcare professional after assessing your symptoms.
UTIs can cause a range of symptoms, including:
• Frequent urination or a sudden urge to urinate
• A burning or painful sensation while passing urine (dysuria)
• Nighttime urination more often than usual (nocturia)
• Blood in urine
• Lower abdominal or back pain (just below the ribs)
• Fever or chills (feeling very hot or cold)
• Cloudy, dark, or strong-smelling urine
If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to seek treatment promptly to prevent complications.
During your consultation at Garlands Pharmacy, our pharmacist will evaluate your symptoms. If eligible, you may be offered antibiotic tablets or capsules to treat your UTI.
